Check out my blog, My Three Children with Disabilities. My oldest was diagnosed with CAPD and bipolar disorder. My middle child with PDD (a form of autism) and cerebral palsy. My youngest with diagnosed with glaucoma, photophobia and visual processing disorder. All three were either recognized as being mentally-challenged, a slow-learner or having ADHD. With reasonable accommodations and a change in diet, all three of my children graduated from a university with honors. I'm sharing my story to help others in understanding hidden disabilities and a possible cause of these disorders.

I remember as a child sitting on my parents' back porch. It was the best thinking place in the world! The porch was always shady because of a huge mulberry tree. Sometimes, I would climb that tree and feel as though I could touch the bright, blue sky.
As I pondered over any problem that I was experiencing, I would remember what Mother always told me," Whenever a door closes, find an open window." Of course, as a child I did not quite understand what she meant. As an adult, I live by those words.
