Years ago, I had this strange dream. I stood watching two older women brewing up a pot of tea. They had given me the name of the tea and told me it would work wonders relating to the cause of aging. In fact, this tea represented the Fountain of Youth.
Well, when I woke up that morning, all I could remember was lemon something. At first, I thought it was lemon grass tea. So, I sipped on this tea for about a month, and I didn't notice any difference in my appearance, nor in the stress I was dealing with at work.
I found out there were two other teas that started with the word, 'lemon' There was lemon balm and lemon verbena. I was able to buy lemon balm as a tea and as a supplement. As for lemon verbena, it didn't come as a tea, but rather as an ingredient used in a soap. And that's because, lemon verbena is not cultivated in our country, but in some of the South American countries.
Recently, I found out that we are beginning to import lemon verbena tea. (I plan to order a package of tea bags and will sample it, once it arrives.)
Now, as for lemon balm, since it is known for relieving stress, help with anxiety and reduce cortisol, I'd thought I'd give it a try as a tea. Naw! It just wasn't what I'd expected. Instead, I began taking it in capsule form and have been for more than six months. I haven't really noticed much difference as a calming effect. Yet, I'm going still keep taking it, since I believe it might be helping with my concentration and memory.
The best, so far, in helping me feel calmer and more at ease has been the Hawthorne/Hibiscus tea. Now, that's not to say that lemon verbena tea might be a better choice. I'll post my findings in my blog, after I've tried it.
